Meter reading data collection is the first step in the metering, billing and collection cycle (MBC). This involves various mechanisms and technologies, ranging from traditional manual readings through to fully automatic meter reading (AMR). Our suite supports a variety of meter reading methods and also addresses the challenges presented by different meter makes, proprietary protocols and data formats.

Billing and collection are the core functions of the revenue management system, which use the meter reading data and apply the designated tariff for specific consumer categories in order to generate bills. Utilities often have many tariffs, which may be complex and varied and which can be updated periodically. Billing is also a complicated process as it has to take into account factors such a past arrears, adjustments, changes in taxation and updates to tariffs. Payment collection is also a demanding area as it must be flexible in order to meet the needs of consumers.

Energy accounting and audit are ‘post business-cycle’ activities which enable the utility to sustain and improve operational efficiency and profitability. Analysis of the these functions is a highly specialised activity which has to take into account new connections, changes to network configuration and the balancing and settling between utilities.
