Secure Pump/Blower Performance Monitoring Solution

  • 20% of the world’s energy consumption is used for pumping
  • Much of the energy used in pumping is wasted
  • The efficiency of pumps degrades with use
  • The efficiency of a pump is not fixed, but depends on how it is run and maintained
  • Around 95% of the life-cycle cost of a pump can be attributed to the energy it uses

Our solution monitors pumps and blowers and calculates their energy use and efficiency. This information enables the most economical time at which to perform repair or replacement to be determined. This in turn optimises performance and minimises operating costs.

Our solution uses Yatesmeters (efficiency meters for pumps and blowers) together with MPM Watch software for monitoring and reporting. The meters are interrogated using on-line communications technologies. Yatesmeters use patented technology based on thermodynamic principles to accurately measure the efficiency of the pumping system, together with the flow rate.

  • Performance monitoring of boiler feed pumps in a middle eastern refinery

To asses which boiler feed pumps required rehabilitation, to improve the condition of the asset, reduce costs and carbon footprint, the refinery wanted to carry out pump performance tests. The results using our performance system showed that all the pumps though efficient, failed to reach their design duty.
  • Performance monitoring of chilled water pumps in a UK food processing plant

Our pump monitoring system provided accurate and real time performance monitoring and information to the plant managers. They could assess which pressurisation pump required rehabilitation. This led to an improvement in the condition of the asset and reduced operating costs and carbon foot print.
  • Performance monitoring of pit pressurisation pumps in a UK Open Cast Mine

The purpose of the tests was to reduce the operating costs and the carbon footprint of the pumps by measuring the performance of pressurisation pumps and assessing which of these required rehabilitation. The testing of the pumps and system highlighted the benefits of real time performance monitoring in providing accurate performance information.
  • Performance monitoring of seawater intake pumps in a Middle Eastern petrochemical plant

A petrochemical plant needed fixed monitoring equipment to provide real time pump performance information to operators. In addition, they needed to check the performance of all pumps individually and formulate a pumping schedule which would enable energy saving. By using our Yatesmeter fixed pump monitors, they were able controls their pumps and produce optimum operating conditions at various levels of flow.
