Secure Consumer Indexing on GIS Maps

The network of a utility is vast and spread over a large area. The area is divided into a number of administrative boundaries and managed by them. It is complex and grows over time with the overall growth in the area. Service connections to each consumer are not always documented and are very difficult to locate because there is no managed and updated database. There is a need to find illegal connections through the survey. Effective management of this vast, distributed network with a huge asset and consumer base requires proper documentation of the distribution network over a geographic base map, mapping of the numerous assets and consumers through surveys and indexing of the same.

There is also a necessity to validate the electrical documentation in accordance with distribution network norms and standards. This differentiates a simple drawing over a Geographical Information System (GIS) platform and electrical network documentation in its true sense.

The software is an integrated software with features and functionalities which are required for the power utilities to meet the need of GIS Documentation and Consumer Indexing in the electricity transmission and distribution network, consisting of substations, switching stations, HT/LT feeder/branch, power and distribution transformers, towers/poles, junction box/pillar box and many other electrical elements that together build the power system.

Plotting of an object over a geographical base map ensures its location by geographic co-ordinates, this can be achieved by manual plotting or by capturing GPS co-ordinate. It requires documentation of consumers, connections and meters at different voltage levels and their association within the network. GIS and single line diagram (SLD) documentation, consumer mapping and indexing are the core modules of this software. Mapping of consumer plots in form of parcels is an optional feature of the software. The product is capable of integrating with third party software through an exposed B2B interface, allowing deployment in many areas. The software is able to meet specific customer needs as the base product can be easily customised.

The software provides powerful on-draw validation, which ensures documentation which meet the standards for electricity transmission and distribution networks. A layer-wise view is supported in the presentation. Moreover, the indexing format is fully flexible and user customisable so that it can be adapted to specific definitions and can be redefined and regenerated.

User generated queries and user customisable reports can be defined in the software. Moreover, access to the different functionalities in the software is managed by different role and user access mapping through a dedicated module.
