Pump Efficiency Testing and Monitoring Service
- 20% of the world’s energy consumption is used for pumping
- Much of the energy used in pumping is wasted
- The efficiency of pumps degrades with use
- The efficiency of a pump is not fixed, but depends on how it is run and maintained
- Around 95% of the life-cycle cost of a pump can be attributed to the energy it uses
Users can benefit greatly from regular monitoring and testing of pumps. This enables the most cost-effective point at which to perform repair or replacement work to be determined.
We offer a full, in-situ testing and monitoring service using our patented technology, which is based on thermodynamic principles. Testing and monitoring can be performed without interrupting or affecting the pumping process. Performance can often be determined after a short period of testing, but monitoring can be extended to cover several days, where appropriate to the pumping system operating regime.
To asses which boiler feed pumps required rehabilitation, to improve the condition of the asset, reduce costs and carbon footprint, the refinery wanted to carry out pump performance tests.
The results using our performance system showed that all the pumps though efficient, failed to reach their design duty.
Our pump monitoring system provided accurate and real time performance monitoring and information to the plant managers. They could assess which pressurisation pump required rehabilitation. This led to an improvement in the condition of the asset and reduced operating costs and carbon foot print.
The purpose of the tests was to reduce the operating costs and the carbon footprint of the pumps by measuring the performance of pressurisation pumps and assessing which of these required rehabilitation.
The testing of the pumps and system highlighted the benefits of real time performance monitoring in providing accurate performance information.
A petrochemical plant needed fixed monitoring equipment to provide real time pump performance information to operators. In addition, they needed to check the performance of all pumps individually and formulate a pumping schedule which would enable energy saving.
By using our Yatesmeter fixed pump monitors, they were able controls their pumps and produce optimum operating conditions at various levels of flow.
