Many homes rely on an electric immersion heater, whether as a primary source for their domestic hot water or as a backup facility to their main system (gas/oil boiler etc). Usually rated at 3 kw domestic immersion heaters can use significant amounts of energy and therefore proper control is essential particularly if they are to be used with an off peak/ time of use tariff.
The BX2000 and E7BX are specialised boost controls designed for use with 3kW immersion heaters when used with Economy 7 or other off peak/time of use tariffs. They are designed to accept two separate incoming supplies, an off peak (restricted) supply and a 24 hour (unrestricted) supply directly from the electricity supplier. Cheap rate (off peak) electricity is supplied directly through the boost control to the immersion heater but should supplies of hot water run low outside of the off peak period then the boost timer can be used to ‘top up’ the hot water tank drawing power from the on peak or standard supply.
The E7BX is a mechanical control offering a 0 to 120 minute boost facility.
The BX2000 is an electronic control offering a 1 or 2 hour boost period and internal circuitry that also ensures priority is always given to the off peak/supply when available.
BX2000
An electronic boost control that accepts all incoming and outgoing wiring for single, dual or two separate 3kW immersion heaters. Designed for use with off peak electricity where the hot water is switched on directly from the off peak meter to provide a tank full of hot water
The BX2000 allows the hot water to be boosted for either one or two hours should it need topping up outside of cheap rate or off peak periods. An electronic circuit ensures that should any off peak supply become available when the boost circuit is in operation it will automatically switch to the off peak supply and switch the boost circuit off. The BX2000 incorporates two double pole isolator switches for both the off peak and 24 hour supplies.
E7BX
A mechanical boost timer that accepts all incoming and outgoing wiring for single, dual or two separate 3kW immersion heaters. E7BX will allow boost periods of up to 2 hours outside the overnight off peak period. Electrical circuitry ensures that it is not possible to have the off peak and 24 hour supplies on at the same time. E7BX incorporates a double pole isolator switch and neon indicator lights.
